Despite one or two negatives, it’s hard not to be charmed by Ghostbusters in slot form. The grooving soundtrack is magical, whilst the visuals have, if anything, become more fitting with time. We loved the balance between horror and comedy, which is in keeping with what made the movie such a joy. As for the game, you do have to forgive that poor RTP and low max win. However, the game targets the low volatility market, so the top payout was always likely to be underwhelming. The game scored much higher on the fun scale and deserves an extra point for allowing us to wave a Proton Beam around (we would never get away with that in the house). Not perfect, but we loved it, nonetheless.

Stay Puft Free Spins

It’s about time the movie's most iconic character made an appearance. Land a Ghostbuster Scatter on reels two and three and a Stay Puft Scatter on reel four to tackle Zuul’s marshmallow incarnation in Stay Puft Spins.

You begin with eight free spins, which take place on an expanded 5x4 grid offering 40 paylines. This feature also comes with its own set of symbols. Ray, Egon, Peter and Winston are the high pays, with Stay Puft Logos, Marshmallow Containers, Stay Puft Hats, Proton Packs, PKE Meters and Ecto Goggles making up the low pay category. Line payouts are a little lower than in the base game.

The big selling point of the round is the Stay Puft Wilds. Toasted versions of these Wilds fall from the sky and may stick to the reels on any spin, where they will remain for the duration of the round.

Our Verdict Two vastly different features, both of which add considerable excitement to the experience. You can’t beat the Ballroom Buster for sheer fun but Stay Puft Free Spins most effectively amps up the big win anticipation.

Ghostbusters haunts the low volatility sector of the slot-o-sphere. Games of this rating provide a smooth experience with regular low-medium-level wins.

Our Verdict There’s no getting away from it; that 93.50% RTP is disappointing. Much like the movie, this slot sounds as though it might be a little scary, but it isn’t really (apart from the Librarian). Given the slightly comedic theme and low max win, the low volatility rating feels about right.

The game may be more than ten years old, but the graphics measure up pretty well to more recent releases. A predominantly white grid dominates the screen, with the border providing only a glimpse of the spooked urban sprawl. The Character Symbols are all photo-realistic, as is the selection of equipment which makes up the low-pay category. Slimer and the other animations continue to come across well, particularly in the excellent Ballroom Buster Round.

Ray Parker Jr., it’s your chance to shine once more. That’s right, the official Ghostbusters theme tune acts as the soundtrack to the game and will soon have you nodding along in nostalgic bliss…I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost! Reluctantly moving away from the backing tune, Slimer brings plenty of comedy value with his array of slapstick boings and yelps, whilst the Librarian does her bit to up the fear factor.

Our Verdict IGT are clearly fans of the movie and deserve top marks for producing a slot which should satisfy die-hard fans. Yes, it does look ever so slightly dated, but considering the movie came out in 1984, that retro vibe is the perfect fit.
