March Madness was in sight when the county Legislature's Joint Budget Committee authorized the Arkansas Racing Commission's proposed regulation authorizing mobile sports betting on February 22, 2022. Whereas betting at each of Arkansas' three casinos, Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort in Hot Springs, Saracen Casino Resort in Pine Bluff, and Southland Casino Racing in West Memphis has been permitted since last summer, March 4 was the first day that bettors were able to freely wager from everywhere in the state. Just recently, Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort said it was striving vigorously to make its mobile platform accessible to the public as quickly as possible. The casino is adopting a "somewhat conservative approach," waiting for formal permission from the Legislature before proceeding with its subcontractor to launch the platform. Last year, in-person sports betting generated around $1.2 million in tax revenue for Arkansas. According to state lawmakers, the new mobile system has the potential to triple those figures, so we will keep you posted on what happens next!
