San Quentin Slot Review
San Quentin is a brand new online slot game from the team at No Limit City. The slot was released in January 2021 and is based around the iconic prison of the same name. While you won’t find Johnny Cash performing here, you will find a huge max win of up to 125,000x your total stake. This high volatility slot has a lot to offer players.
Theme & Design
While online slots with a prison theme aren’t anything new, this one stands out for its more gritty take on the genre. The majority of prison slots are often parodies or quite cartoonish, but this one puts you right in the middle of one of America’s most iconic and toughest jails. It has a fantastic feeling to it, and the graphics are great. The prison yard in the background is well designed, with CCTV cameras looking over the reels, and a barbed-wire fence bordering the background.
The reels themselves are home to some pretty nasty looking prisoners including a tattooed thug, a guy with a bandana and a shifty looking character with a goatee and some sunglasses. The other symbols are all items you would find in prison including a makeshift blade with a screwdriver, a lighter, some soap, some dirty toilet roll, and some handcuffs. A watchtower represents the game’s bonus symbol.
The soundtrack also does a great job of immersing you, with some heavy metal music drowning you out as you spin the reels. There are also some prison style clanking sound effects that accompany certain wins and bonuses.
San Quentin Slot How to Play
There is a lot to unpack with San Quentin, but thankfully, the slot itself is very easy to get to grips with. The first thing that players need to do is choose their stake. This is done using the standard +/- buttons. The minimum that can be wagered is $20 per line, while the maximum is $32 per line. The slot has a generous 243 different pay lines across its five reel set-up.
San Quentin is a high volatility slot, with the game having an RTP of 96.03%. There is an auto spin mode and players are also free to check the value of any symbols, or the rules of the game, at any point from the slot’s setting menu during gameplay.
San Quentin on Mobile
If you have managed to smuggle a phone into San Quentin and want to hit the reels, then you’re in luck. No City Limited developed the slot for use on a range of mobile devices, including those on both Android and iOS operating systems.
San Quentin Slot Bonus Round and Free Spins
One of the reasons this slot has been such a runaway success already is the range of bonus features that it has. The first thing you are likely to notice when you load the game up is the locked cells with inmates inside that sit at the top and the bottom of the reels. These cells are unlocked whenever a player lands one or two scatter symbols. Each cell has a different bonus symbol inside. These include a split symbol that splits the regular symbols into either two or four, enhancing the winning potential. An xWay symbol will reveal a randomly chosen symbol in stacks of four on the reels. As well as this, these cells can also contain extra wilds or premium symbols.
The slot also has a great bonus round called Lockdown. This is triggered when players manage to land three or more scatter symbols on their reels. During this round, players will be rewarded with jumping wilds and some free spins. The number of free spins is decided randomly by some of the cells opening at the bottom of the reels.
Also, if all of that wasn’t enough – one of the cellmate symbols will also be turned into a multiplier at random, further enhancing a player’s chances of a big win.
