Spin Safe: How New Limits on Slots Could Change Your Play
New Online Slot Wagering Limits Hit UK Players
Hold onto your hats, UK slot fans! Some fresh changes are rolling out that will affect how much you can wager online. These new rules are all about boosting player protection. The Government wants to encourage responsible gambling and lower the risk of harm for those who might be more vulnerable. So, if you like a flutter on the slots, these limits will likely impact your playing experience.
What are the New Wagering Limits?
The new limits are based on your age, and they look like this:
- Ages 18-24: £2 maximum bet per spin
- Ages 25 and over: £5 maximum bet per spin
The £5 spin limit is already in place (since 9th April 2025), but if you're between 18 and 24, the £2 limit will kick in a bit later, on 21st May 2025.
It does seem a bit strange that they've rolled out the rule for one age group but not the other simultaneously. It almost feels like they're prioritising the most vulnerable group last.
Alongside these new wagering limits, online casinos will also be introducing Financial Affordability checks, as outlined by the UKGC's latest rules.
Initially, this felt quite invasive and a bit 'big brother', but we can see the logic behind it. Currently, online casinos have to check the details and financial situation of players who deposit a certain amount.
The new rules aim to make this a smoother process, as before players often had to send in documents proving their salary, bank balance, and ID. Sending this sort of information to a casino just felt invasive to us.
Who gets to see this information, and is it kept safe? It just feels wrong that you have to give this sort of information to what should be a place for entertainment.
The UK Government did release a White Paper back in 2023, and UK slot players are now feeling the impact of its findings through these reduced wagering limits and the need to provide more financial info to casinos. If you've deposited over £500 at a site, expect some questions. This applies to all regulated and licensed UK casinos.

New Online Casino Marketing Rules
On top of all the changes mentioned above, there are also new rules about how these casino sites can get in touch with you. If a site you play on offers casino games, a sportsbook, bingo, and poker, they're no longer allowed to cross-promote their other products to you.
Expect to get emails from sites you play on, asking about your preferences. We reckon this is a good step, as some sites really do take the mickey when it comes to bombarding you with promotions.
