Fear the Dark has two Scatter symbols; the Moon Man symbol helps trigger the game’s Full Moon Bonus, while the Candle is the key to unlocking free spins.

Cascading Reels

The slot also uses a Cascading Reels mechanic, which will see new symbols drop down to replace winning ones, hopefully creating more successful combinations along the way.

Full Moon Feature

This is where the Moon Man takes centre stage.

When the Moon Man symbol lands on the reels, it activates two to five symbol multipliers above the grid which range between between 2x - 100x, each of which corresponds to one of the slot’s premium symbols.

These multipliers are applied to all wins on their symbol type as long as they remain active. For example, a Zombie symbol with a 3x multiplier might be displayed above the reels, which will apply to any winning combinations involving the Zombie.

When the grid returns to normal for the first time after triggering this feature, the leftmost multiplier is deactivated and removed.

This leads to all symbols of the corresponding type - as well as all low-paying symbols - being removed from the grid. New symbols will drop down to replace them, hopefully creating new wins and getting you closer to that 5,000x max win.

Once the grid re-settles, the next multiplier in line is removed. This occurs until all multipliers have been removed - ending the feature.

Landing another Moon Man symbol during this round will either activate more symbol multipliers or increase the value of the existing multipliers.

Alone in the Dark Feature

Landing three or more Candle Scatter symbols at the same time in the base game activates the Alone in the Dark bonus, which gives you 10 or 15 free spins, depending on whether you landed three or four Candle Scatters.

What’s even better is that you’ll get a further four free spins for each extra Candle Scatter you land during this round. There’s also a better chance of landing Moon Man symbols during the Free Spins Bonus.

Darkness Spins

Darkness Spins are an extra part of the Free Spins Bonus, giving you two extra spins which aren’t counted within the 10 or 15 initially awarded.

Before each Darkness Spin, the grid shrink in both directions, first to 4x4, then to 2x2. The feature ends after the second Darkness Spin.

If a Moon Man symbol lands during Darkness Spins, the grid will return to its original 6x6 size for the duration of that spin. When the Full Moon feature ends, the Darkness Spins reset and start over again with a 4x4 grid.

If a Candle Scatter symbol lands during Darkness Spins, the grid returns to its original 6x6 size for the duration of that spin resuming the normal Free Spins Bonus. Once the free spins have been used, the bonus returns to Darkness Spins which reset and start over again with a 4x4 grid.
