Into The Storm Slot Review
Light and Wonder are well respected for the diversity of the games under their umbrella – both in terms of gameplay and theme. Into The Storm sees the developers summon their inner Viking as they set sail on the slots gaming ocean.
Those climbing aboard may be fooled into thinking they are in for a serene excursion; the seas are calm, and the skies are blue; what could be more relaxing? Don’t get too comfortable, though, as this particular longship comes fully loaded with features, whilst the game’s high volatility setting ensures that turbulence is never too far away.
Then, of course, we have the storm of the game’s title, which explodes into sea-monster-laden life in a frenetic hold-and-win style bonus game. Climb aboard and strap yourselves in for a game featuring Walking Wilds, streak wins, max win potential of 10,000x, and that most famous scourge of seafarers….The Kraken.
Into The Storm Slot How to Play
The base game takes place on a standard 5×3 layout with a total of 20 set winning lines. Wins are recorded by connecting three or more matching symbols on any of those 20 lines, moving from left to right, and beginning with reel number 1.
Green, Blue, Yellow, Red and Purple Viking Runes make up the game’s low-paying symbols, paying out 2-4x for five in a row. A Helmet, and a cast of three Viking Stars – led by “Lief the Lucky” of Viking legend – provide the higher paying icons, rewarding you with 4-20x for five in a row.
The Wild symbols in this game are represented by a brown Viking Wood Carving symbol.
This substitutes for standard symbols to create winning lines.
Take A Walk on the Wild Side
During the base game the randomly generated “Walking Wilds Re-Spin Feature” may trigger at any time. Rather than the standard brown Wilds, these wave-powered icons come with a hint of blue. The appearance of 2-4 such symbols signals that the storm is about to begin, but don’t fret, these unsettled seas are your friend.
During this feature, the Wilds will lock in place for the initial spin. Following the conclusion of this spin, a wave will appear from stage left or stage right, sweeping all wilds one place to the left or the right. This respin and shifting wilds process continues until all Walking Wild symbols have strolled right off the reels.
An additional perk to this feature comes whenever a Walking Wild lands on a regular Wild, as this will see a multiplier of +1 apply to all connected winning lines.
Into The Storm Slot Bonus Round and Free Spins
Into The Storm Bonus Round
The Walking Wild Feature provides a taste of the storm, but it is not until you enter the Into The Storm Bonus Round that the full fury of the ocean is unleashed.
Landing 3, 4 or 5 Kraken Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will spark the wrath of the gods and see the bonus round begin. The skies darken, lightning flashes, and the previously soothing backing music takes a turn towards the frenetic.
The gameplay then shifts to a 9×5 grid, with your total of spins set at 3. Depending upon whether you triggered the round with 3, 4 or 5 Scatters, the board will also feature either 1, 2, or 3 Kraken Hot Zones – basically consisting of a Kraken occupying one of the spots on the 9×5 grid, with each adjacent space then featuring a multiplier boost of between 2x and 5x. Note that these multipliers are initially inactive from a winnings perspective, but will spark into life should a regular multiplier land within the hot zone during the round.
During the bonus round, only blanks, additional Krakens, multipliers (1x-3x), or one of three modifiers may land. Any non-blank symbol that lands will lock in place for the duration of the round, and see your re-spins tally reset to three.
Whilst one Kraken hot zone is good, two or more are certainly better. Should hot zones overlap, their values will be multiplied together. For example, should two 5x hot-zone multipliers overlap, they will be replaced by a 25x multiplier. If a 3x standard multiplier then lands in that slot it will turn gold, and you will find yourself with a locked-in multiplier of 75x.
On to the modifier symbols, all of which have a Viking theme, and come with a welcome effect.
- Hammer – Doubles the value of a random selection of locked-in multiplier values.
- Treasure Chest – Collects the total value of all existing locked-in multipliers and adds this to your multiplier total for the round.
- Viking Coin – Sees your re-spins total reset to 4 rather than 3.
Each of the modifiers may appear up to three times during the round, other than the Viking Coin, which can appear only once.
The round ends when you run out of re-spins (lives), at which point the value of all locked-in multipliers is totalled and applied to your stake. Should you manage to fill all 45 slots with non-blank symbols, you will be sailing off into the sunset with a max win of 10,000x.
