If the challenge was to create a “Book Of” style game with no bells and whistles or innovative new features, then Skywind Group has delivered. Book of Gems Megaways is the definition of solid but unspectacular, and for us, that didn’t quite cut it in such a densely populated field. The visuals are humdrum, and the base game is as dry as the Saharan sands. On the plus side, the bonus round works as well as it usually does, and the max win is decent for a game of this type. If you are new to this style, you may enjoy what you find, but better value and more exciting alternatives are available.

Underwhelming was one of the first words to come to mind with the backdrop. The flame-hued sky is nice enough, but the pyramids lack detail, and a little dynamism wouldn’t have gone amiss. Thankfully, more effort has gone into the reel symbols, with the card values benefitting from a thematic font and the golden high-pays gleaming against the darkened grid.

Audio

The audio team have effectively created a soundtrack which draws you into the North African setting. Egyptian harps pluck throughout, intermixed with cymbals, soft flutes, and rhythmic bongos. It all comes together nicely to create an Arabian Nights-style vibe. The reel effects are also well chosen, with the chants and electronic flourishes, which accompany wins and special symbols, melding well with the ambient tune.

Our Verdict Something of a mixed bag production-wise. Visually, there are many better-looking slots in this genre. We had no such complaints on the sound front, as the well-put-together audio accompaniment hits the thematic nail on the head.
