Red Tiger knows this environment well, having previously released Gonzo’s Quest Megaways. No surprise then, that Gonzita’s Quest scores top marks in terms of production values. It is, however, hard to argue that this is an improvement on what has gone before.

Gonzita certainly does her bit – kissing coins, catching gold in her helmet, and of course, doing the Macarena – but that is not quite enough to liven up a base game that is very light on features. A regular Wild or Multiplier would not have gone amiss here – the absence of both may leave you simply waiting for the bonus round to trigger.

On the plus side, the resetting spins and escalating Multipliers of the Free Spins round can mean that the wait is worth your while. Overall, a solid addition to the Gonzo collection, but it could perhaps have offered a little more.

How To Play Gonzita's Quest Slot

The South American slot’s action takes place on a 5×3 layout, featuring a total of 20 paylines.

It also has the Avalanche mechanic, meaning that whenever a win is recorded, all winning symbols explode out of existence, making way for new or existing symbols to drop and fill the reels.

This process continues until a win fails to hit, bringing the possibility of exciting chain-reaction wins. The wins themselves are recorded for three or more connecting symbols on a pay line, beginning at reel number one.

The side-facing stone carvings of Bird, Snake, Alligator, and Fish masks make up the game’s low-paying symbols, paying out 2-8x for five in a row.

More rewarding are the front-facing purple, gold, green, and blue masks, which offer wins of 15-125x for a sequence of five.

A little disappointingly, there are no Wild or Multiplier symbols in the base game, but events are brightened up by the popular Avalanche feature.

Gonzita's Quest might look similiar to its famed predecessor, but there are some key differences when it comes to the Bonus round.

Stone slabs containing a multiplier represent the game’s Scatter Symbols. Landing three of these anywhere on the screen will send you and Gonzita into the game’s feature – much to the delight of the game’s titular character.

The central reel opens to reveal a blinding golden light; Gonzita claps her hands with glee, and ventures inside….

During the Free Spins Bonus, the central reel is replaced by a golden throne as Gonzita takes her seat to watch the action unfold. You are awarded three free spins to begin the round, with each spin featuring only stone slabs – either blank or containing a Multiplier.

Any Multiplier-containing slab that lands will reset the spins tally to three. Blank slabs explode away, whilst all Multiplier slams remain in place for subsequent spins.

Should a reel become filled, the Multiplier totals will be removed and added to the tally beneath Gonzita’s throne. That reel will then be upgraded to a higher-value Golden Slabs Reel.

Fill a Golden Slabs Reel with Multipliers, and the process will repeat, with the reel then becoming a max value Diamond Slabs Reel. The Multipliers contained within each of the reel levels are as follows.

Stone Slabs – 1x, 2x, 5x or 7x your stake.
Golden Slabs – 10x, 25x, 50x and 75x your stake
Diamond Slabs – 100x, 250x, 500x and 750x your stake.

The round continues until your three spins run out, at which point any Multipliers in play will be combined with the total beneath Gonzita’s throne and applied to your stake.
