Wazdan has visited Valhalla before, but this game may be their best interpretation of the theme yet. Thoroughly engaging throughout, thanks to the excellent work of the sound and graphics team, the slot successfully draws you into its world. Hold the Jackpot Bonus

Landing six Gold Coins anywhere on the reels will send you into the mysterious lair of the Hold The Jackpot Bonus Game. Don’t despair should only three, four, or five Gold Coins spin into view. Whenever this occurs, all coins will become sticky for the subsequent spin – increasing your chances of marching into the feature.

The bonus game also takes place on a 4x4 grid, but only blanks or special symbols may land. All Gold Coins which helped trigger the round remain locked in place, and you begin with three re-spins. Each spin featuring only blanks will see your tally decrease by one, but at least one new special symbol will reset the total to three. All special symbols are sticky during the bonus round, with the following two types available:

Whilst many Valhalla-themed slots lean heavily on the gruesome – all broken bones and glaring skulls – Wazdan present an altogether more relaxing setting. Soothing waterfalls flow and splash in the background, whilst the hall itself takes pride of place on a rocky outcrop – all reminiscent of a beautiful watercolour. In contrast, the reel symbols are much brighter, particularly the well-illustrated Viking characters, who are given the breath of life via mild but effective animations. Moving into the bonus round, that scenic background disappears entirely to be replaced by a black abyss and swirling mists – adding a nice element of drama to proceedings.

Audio

The brooding winds and marauding drums of the Nordic soundtrack imply a level of danger not suggested by the setting. It’s all rather cinematic, particularly in the Bonus Round, where the drums move up a gear and a Viking grunt greets the arrival of each Special Symbol.
