New York Launches Sports Betting Apps

According to New York gambling authorities, at least four online sports betting sites went live on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.  Four of the nine businesses have met all legislative and regulatory criteria to begin operations for online gambling. The four are DraftKings, FanDuel, Rush Street Interactive (under their BetRivers brand), and Caesars Sportsbooks.

Each sportsbook will have to decide when they will individually begin accepting bets, although all four have stated that they would be open on Saturday. According to the schedule, at least four online New York sportsbooks will be open for NFL betting during the playoffs. The remaining five sportsbooks will be authorized once their standards are completed periodically: Resorts World, BetMGM, PointsBet, Bally Bet (with PointsBet as platform provider), and WynnBET.

While New York receives a quicker timeline than expected, less than half the sportsbooks are ready to launch. So instead, four of the largest US sports betting businesses will have a head start on the penultimate weekend of the NFL regular season. That may be considerable, particularly in a jurisdiction where sports betting revenue is taxed at 51%. However, once bettors are acquainted with the brands offered, some may be too expensive to promote their way back into the game.
