New York Launches Online Sports Betting

Since licensees were chosen in November 2021 for online gambling, there hasn't been much news about mobile New York sportsbooks. However, that doesn't imply there haven’t been any movements going on behind the scenes, as Senator Joe Addabbo has stated that most of the hard work for sportsbooks to go live is essentially done.

Addabbo insinuated that we now have an estimated date for mobile sportsbooks to go live- Mid January. Addabbo told Legal Sports Report, “I think that we’re still on par for a mid-January start, in my estimation.”

But the question on everyone's lips is will the New York sportsbooks be open for American events such as NFL playoffs?  Wild Card weekend begins on January 15; does this indicate that legal online NFL gambling will be accessible throughout the playoffs? It is still up in the air, but Addabbo believes it will happen in the early stages of the playoffs.

Given the hefty 51 percent tax on sports betting revenue, there is considerable worry about what promotions online NY sportsbooks would provide. However, Addabbo emphasized that user acquisition is already in full gear when asked. The first step in the assessment process is to see how New York compares to its Super Bowl betting rivals. He'll also look at March Madness odds to see how New York compares with New Jersey and other neighboring states.

Addabbo notes that "The announcement by the New York State Gaming Commission that four of the nine licenced mobile sports wagering operators will begin operations, is fantastic news for New York in terms of revenue, new funding for education programmes, and youth sports, as well as new jobs." This is a positive move for the state as a whole, and we can’t wait to see what happens next!
