Highland Reels Overview

Highland Reels was released on 16th March 2021 by the world-famous software developers, Eyecon. They are behind some of the world’s most popular online video slots, including titles like Shaman’s Dream 2, Beat the Bobbies at the Tower of London, and Fluffy Favourites. This slot transports you to the world of the highland games, where burley Scotsmen hurl huge logs and lift gigantic boulders to prove their strength. Amongst the flying heavy objects is your chance to score some huge cash prizes.

Highland Reels is played on a 5×3 set of reels with 25 ways to win. The maximum jackpot in the game is a whopping 3000x your stake. For your chance to win it, you will need to wager a stake that can be between £0.25 per spin up to a maximum of £12.50 per spin. The relatively low stakes make this a perfect beginner slot game and great for those just looking to have a bit of fun. The bonus features include two highland games, the Hammer Throw and the Caber Toss, which provides players with cash prizes, multipliers and free spins.

Graphics and Theme

Eyecon has done a great job and bringing Scottish stereotypes to life with the design of the game. Two kilt-wearing men stand on either side of the reels. The man to the left grips a huge stone bolder, while the man to the right welds a huge log that he’s getting ready to throw, although he looks a bit shaky. The reels are situated somewhere in the Scottish Highlands, and there is a screaming crowd that are dancing and waving tartan flags. The reels are encased in a border that is made from a bagpipe and more tartan. Sitting proudly on top of the reels is the game’s logo.

The soundtrack to this game combines crowd noises with a Celtic tune played on the bagpipes and violins. It’s uplifting, jolly and will make you want to join the crowd in their celebrations. When you hit spin, the reels rotate to the noise of loud drums, and each reel comes to a stop one by one with a gentle thudding noise. If you’re lucky enough to land a winning combo that involves the Scotsman scatter symbol, the ginger Scotsman will scream to let you know you’ve won.

The low paying symbols are made up of the playing card symbols, nine, 10, jack, queen, king and ace. Five of a kind aces are worth 500 coins. The high paying symbols are a boulder and a log. The log in the most valuable, worth 1000 coins for five of a kind. The two scatter symbols will also pay out a maximum of 50 coins for five of a kind. The wild symbol is the golden cup which can only appear on reels two and four. Any winning combos made with the wild symbol will double in value.

Five different colour kilt symbols work off an anyways pays system. You need to land two or more kilts on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel to trigger a payout. Five of a kind kilts provides the maximum payout of 3000 coins.

Hammer throw

This feature is triggered when three or more of the hammer scatter symbols land on the reels. You will be presented with a bunch of targets that you will need to select until you find a matching pair of symbols hidden on the other side of the targets. Once you find a matching pair, the feature ends. However, for every target you select, it’s possible to reveal a multiplier from 2x to 100x your stake. The multiplier will be multiplied by your triggering stake and award you the total of that value.

Caber toss

This feature is triggered if you land three or more Scotsman scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. Each triggering scatter symbol needs to be selected one by one, which will reveal a prize. First, he will throw his caber, revealing prizes up to 100x your stake or ten free spins. The free spins will only commence once all of the scatter prizes have been revealed. All the prizes will be added together, so it’s possible to win up to 50 free spins. Not only that, but all the prizes won during the free spins round will be doubled.

Highland Reels How to Play

Highland Reels is played on a 5×3 set of reels with 25 active pay lines. It’s your job to land three or more matching symbols on a winning pay line to trigger a payout. The maximum payout is 3000 coins which can be won by landing five of a kind kilt symbols. To be in for a shot at this prize, you will need to bet a minimum of £0.25 per spin or a maximum of £12.50 per spin. The base game is fun, but the real action takes place in the Hammer throw and Caber toss features. So, keep an eye out for three or more scatter symbols landing on your reels.

Highland Reels on Mobile

This Eyecon game is mobile-friendly thanks to the HTML 5 design. It will respond to different screen sizes so you can play from your mobile, tablet or laptop. It’s also compatible with all iOS and Android mobile devices, so no one has to miss out on the fun.

Highland Reels Conclusion

Pros
  • Fantastic Gameplay
  • Fun Theme
  • Huge Prizes
Cons
  • Unusual Theme
  • Poor Betting Range

This game has a fun theme and fantastic gameplay. The bonus features not only provide the chance to win huge prizes, but they are interactive and involve you hitting some buttons. It makes it feel like more of a game than a slot which I liked. If you take a spin, let us know what you think in the comments below.
