The 2022 Australian Open is the tournament's 110th edition hosted in Melbourne, Australia. With the controversy surrounding Novak Djokovic, the journey to this year's Australian Open has been chaotic, to say the least, especially for those wagering on the projected favorites.  According to recent event coverage, Daniil Medvedev is the frontrunner for the Men's Singles title in the 2022 Australian Open. This was not the case only a few days ago when Medvedev was ranked second behind defending champion, Novak Djokovic. With Djokovic out of the picture, world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev emerged as the favorite for the Australian Open, and he has lived up to the hype thus far. The Australian authorities revoked Djokovic’s visa, preventing him from defending his championship. As a result, Medvedev has risen to the very top of the list of favorites for online sports betting and sportsbooks.

What Happened with Djokovic, and How Does it Affect the Tournament?

The federal government revoked Novak Djokovic’s Australian visa despite receiving a medical exemption from the Australian Tennis Federation. Although unvaccinated players are not permitted to participate in the Australian Open, ATP No. 1 was granted permission to partake since he had a covid related illness a few weeks prior.

However, the Australian Tennis Federation's guidelines differ from those established by the federal government. According to their guidelines, a past illness is not a legitimate cause for an unvaccinated individual to be given entrance without the necessary quarantine, which is set at two weeks in the state of Victoria. He has since been deported and subsequently had to depart Australia. Due to Novak Djokovic's visa decision, the men's draw opened up, with a lot of uncertainty about who will be the Australian Open winner. However, he was the current favorite for sportsbooks, and regarded as one of the top tennis players of all time so now everyone is asking… who will win the Australian Open now?
