Rogue Sets Sights on Standing Out in 2024 (Interview)

The online slot game market is one of the fiercest in the online casino industry, with hundreds of titles being released by developers every week. This makes it very hard for newer companies to break in, so when they do so, they deserve special praise.

Enter Rogue, an innovative developer we were delighted to come across in 2023 - a banner year for the company.

"Releasing Wild Whopper exclusively on Sky Vegas in December was an amazing end to 2023," Rogue's Chief Product Officer Dan Lamond told CasinoRange. Happy Holidays with Happy Returns™ has been one of the most fun games to build with five bonus games and an amazing variance and big win potential that the Happy Returns mechanic provides. We’re really excited about the some follow up concepts and collaborations that will launch through Playzido this year. Away from Rogue, there have been so many great releases but my favourite is probably Hot Offer Deluxe by Bang Bang Games. You always know it will be a strong game from this studio and this one plays really nicely with elements of player control too. 

We also asked Lamond what fans could expect from Rogue for the rest of the year.

Which releases should fans be most excited for in the coming months?

The first version of our Blockchain™ mechanic is called Stacking Kong and is one we are really excited about.

It is one of a number of non-traditional game types that we have been working on for a while and have been incredibly well received by operators with some bespoke versions already lined up. 

What does a successful year look like for Rogue?

We’re a small, self funded studio so a successful 2024 would be simply to compete with the thousands of other providers and establish our mechanics. We’ve seen a great demand for innovation in slots but also completely new game types where small, agile and creative studios like us can really prosper. 

How do you expect the company to grow and develop over the coming months?

We differentiate ourselves on innovation and originality in our game mechanics and this is where we will continue to focus in 2024. We see lots of potential in our model of creating new mechanics that can generate a whole suite of games. We are always creating new mechanics but will also develop the existing ones and push them in new directions.  

What is the one thing above all else that Rogue would like to achieve by the end of the year?

The one thing I am most excited about is creating some completely new game types together with some big UK operators but the single biggest thing for Rogue will most likely be to launch our games in the US. 

Are there any slot game innovations that players should keep their eye out for in 2024?

We have a whole host of new and evolved slot innovations coming up; Locked and Loaded™, Mash ups™ and Merge™ are really exciting new mechanics with follow ups to Tsunami Reels™, Fusion Reels™, Turbo Reels™ and Happy Returns™ also planned. 

I think the new stake restriction in the UK will create a new wave of innovations to slots but also around slots that will be really interesting and we have a few concepts that we are working on in this area too.
