Our Favourite New Online Slots of 2023

It's been a big year for online slot games in 2023. Developers across the industry have really stepped up their game, meaning that the competition between them has never been fiercer. This has also meant that the quality of online slot games has never been higher, which is great news for players everywhere.

It's fair to say we've seen our fair share of new slots this year, so we wanted to take the time to highlight our 10 favourite new slots to debut in 2023!

It comes as no surprise that the fishing genre has had a bounty of new games added this year (more on that later). One of the nautical slots that made the biggest impression on me this year was Fishin' Frenzy: The Big Splash.

The Fishin' Frenzy slots always provide a good time, but Fishin' Frenzy: The Big Splash's mix of a fun Free Spins Bonus and enticing modifiers resulted in a thrilling experience.

Ronin’s Honour (Play'n GO)

It felt like developers were more likely to take a risk with their slot games in 2023, and Ronin's Honour was a perfect example of why risk and reward go hand in hand so often.

The anime-inspired title was a real breath of fresh air, combining breathtaking visuals with unique gameplay. The fighting game-style bonus round was a particularly fun addition which added so much replay value to the slot.

Fear the Dark (Hacksaw Gaming)

Hands down my favorite spooky slot of the year was Hacksaw Gaming's Fear the Dark.

The slot had so many amazing features to play with - take your pick from the Alone in the Dark Free Spins, the Full Moon feature or the Darkness Spins. Add in a cool aesthetic and you can see why this is one of our favourite Hacksaw releases of the year.

Razor Returns (Push Gaming)

We were eagerly anticipating the sequel to Razor Shark, and Push Gaming certainly disappoint with Razor Returns!

The shark-infested fun returned bigger than ever - more paylines, a higher max win, and even more features to sink your teeth into!

Hellcatraz 2 Dream Drop (Relax Gaming)

Another sequel which knocked my socks off, I thought Hellcatraz 2 Dream Drop - Relax Gaming's sequel to Hellcatraz - was absolutely brilliant.

I'm always drawn to the charm of Relax Gaming's 8-bit game designs, but the addition of the Dream Drop jackpot really won me over when it came to Hellcatraz 2 Dream Drop.

Gerard’s Gambit (Play'n GO)

There was really something in the water in April 2023...

Gerard's Gambit really gave us a lot when it debuted. Not only did it give us a unique slot format which followed Gerard on his worldly travels, but we also got an addition to online slot game lore. Rich Wilde has an uncle Gerard! The Black Sheep of the family! How do you even get that title! So many questions to be answered in 2024...

Dam Beavers (ELK Studios)

Release Date: 5th December 2023

Recency biased be damned - Dam Beavers was one of the best games I reviewed this year. I'm not sure what I was more taken by; the sheer amount of bonus features on offer, the amazing slot design, or the fact that there was a feature called Beaver Night Fever, where beavers disco danced wearing 70s style clothes. Now I understand the phrase better late than never...

Money Train 4 (Relax Gaming)

Speaking of highly anticipated sequels...

The Money Train series has been a triumph for Relax Gaming, especially its conclusion in the form of Money Train 4.

Scintillating visuals and dynamite graphics made Money Train 4 a worthy way to end what had become an iconic set of online slot games.

The Goonies: Hey You Guys! (Blueprint Gaming)

While it doesn't hurt that the slot pays homage to one of my favourite films of all time, The Goonies: Hey You Guys! is an amazing slot game in it's own right.

The Cash Collect feature, the modifiers, and plenty of Sloth appearances made for a cocktail of chaos in the best possible way!

Big Bass Hold and Spinner Megaways

Release Date: 28th August 2023

There's no way that this list would be complete without a Pragmatic Play title, and it's only fitting that the slot in question is Big Bass: Hold and Spinner Megaways.

The Megaways twist on the original title was a welcome one, not to mention the addition of the Hold and Spin mechanic. Anyone who's paid attention to our Pragmatic Play's Biggest Wins series can see just how much of an impact this slot has made this year.

Picking Our Favourite...

If pressed, I'd have to go with Dam Beavers as my favourite new online slot machine of 2023. All the games on the list brought so much enjoyment, but there's something about Dam Beavers that really took my breath away. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a cute animal!
