Scientific Games are behemoths of US Casino & Lottery games. Creators of many bespoke and branded slot games both offline and online. Along with its Digital Online division, curiously named Light & Wonder, it delivers entertainment for Licensed USA Casino venues.
Established in the early 1970s, Scientific Games is a casino games software provider in Las Vegas. They originally started as a software developer for land-based casinos. However, SG Digital's iGaming division ( Light and Wonder ) creates slots and card games for online casinos.
SG Digital might not be known as well under its current corporate name. You may know them better under its subsidiaries: Bally, NextGen, NYX Interactive and WMS. SG Digital has UKGC, MGA, Gibraltar, Swedish, Alderney and individual state licences in the United States.
SG Digital got established in 1973 as Scientific Games. They were slot and lottery, game developers. For decades, they supplied games to casinos throughout the Las Vegas strip and lottery organisers in the US. Then, in 2001, Autotote Corp bought them.
Instead of changing its name to the new company, Autotote dropped its name to identify as Scientific Games Corporation. The two brands snowballed rapidly; by 2002, they tracked two-thirds of sports betting in North America.
To help them gain a better threshold in online casinos, SG Digital began acquiring smaller iGaming providers in 2006. First, they purchased EssNet, a Swedish-based developer. Then it was Barcrest in 2010, WMS in 2013 and Bally in 2014.
Now licensed in multiple states in the United States, there is a very good chance every slot player has, at some point, played a game developed by Scientific Games or one of its subsidiaries.
The company has undergone transformations, and nowadays, Scientific Games concentrates on the regulated lottery industry. At the same time, SG Digital and Light & Wonder focus on the online slots and casino games market.
